Artur Abdullin leads cutting-edge wallpaper development at California Wallpaper. His work combines an understanding of traditional papers and natural grasscloth with the demands of commercial interiors. Based in Los Angeles, he has worked professionally in the field since 2010.
Through his installation practice, Artur and his team see how a product behaves beyond the sample book: how it cuts, aligns, joins, and finishes. He brings those observations into our studio, helping us improve the way our collections are made and used.
A Broad Installation Practice
His installation work covers residential and commercial interiors in Los Angeles, Orange County, and Ventura County. It spans nonwoven papers, peel-and-stick products, Type I and Type II vinyl, natural fibers, and specialty finishes.
Silk, foils, and hand- or screen-printed papers call for different approaches to preparation, paste, and trimming. Woven surfaces bring another challenge: knowing when a visible seam or change in tone belongs to the material itself.
Many projects begin with a selection made by the client or designer, including products from other manufacturers. That variety gives Artur a broad view of what works well, what needs particular care, and what should be explained before a purchase.
Hands-on Development In Our Studio
In the studio, he works with trials and print samples, examining how color, texture, and the edges of a panel come together. A pleasing image is the starting point; the roll also needs to work in an installer’s hands.
That approach helped shape our peel-and-stick offering. We primarily use General Formulations GF 229HTR WallMark Canvas for its substantial 6-mil construction, matte texture, dimensional stability, and high-tack removable acrylic adhesive.
As we refine print settings and invest in equipment, his feedback keeps development grounded in the finished result. Color needs to hold its character on the chosen surface. Panels need to align. The finish needs to suit the space.
